Day 9 Oct. 28
This is a bittersweet day: my beloved left me for heaven exactly 3 months ago today. I didn’t think these anniversaries would haunt me like this, but they do. Grief is a funny and surprising thing. But as we rode the bus northward today from Dundee to Inverness through the beautiful Scottish Highlands, there shone forth in the middle of a beautiful day a rainbow, right on schedule. It was if Susan was saying, “I’m OK, and I know you’re having a wonderful time.” The latter is very true.
In fact I can’t quite believe that this Texan is roaming around this Northern Scottish city in just a sweater. It is unseasonably warm today, and the sun came out just as we came to the famous Loch Ness. I got a picture of the famous monster–at least the sculpted version next to the exhibition center–as well as shots of the various boats vainly looking to see the famous Nessie up close and personal.
Tonight Kilfane plays their last concert. Please pray for Elizabeth. While the other female players have recovered from their colds, E. is totally exhausted–so much so that she stayed in the hotel with David while our expedition to Loch Ness was underway. Not only is she the lead singer with Kilfane, she has the added burden of having to put on her dance concert within a week of her return. I am very concerned about her. [Editor’s Note: She did a great job in spite of the cold and recovered when she returned to Atlanta–see tomorrow’s post.]
The concert tonight is “sold out” so we are looking forward to an exciting time–assuming E. recovers sufficiently. This is likely to be my last post from the UK, since tomorrow will be a very long day with an 8 hour bus ride back to Manchester followed by a morning flight the next day. I hope you have enjoyed these posts as much as I have writing them. Susan would be very proud of me–I hardly complained at all, and I stayed illness free despite bringing 2 lbs of medications, none of which I have had to use. Too bad for Puddleglum!
